ü    Go to a professional tattoo artist and follow his/her instructions regarding after care once the tattoo is done.

ü    Keep the bandage on your tattoo for at least 3 hours or even longer depending on the tattoo design.

ü    After removing the bandage, make sure that you wash the area of your skin where the tattoo is done with an antiseptic soap.

ü    Next put an antiseptic ointment on the newly uncovered tattoo. Use a washcloth for it and strictly avoid using a paper towel.

ü    Do not rub the ointment on the tattoo, rather all you need to do is to dab the ointment on it.

ü    Continue using an antibiotic/antiseptic cream for a few days till you can shift to a normal lotion.

ü    Make sure the antiseptic cream that you use doesn’t have any zinc content in it. The presence of zinc can damage the tattoo ink.

ü    It is also highly advisable that you do not let your tattoo come in contact with water, at least for the initial few days till it gets healed properly.

These are a few instructions which you need to follow to protect your wound from an infection. But in case your tattoo is already infected then the first thing that you need to do is to go to a doctor and follow his/her advice religiously so that the infection doesn’t get any worse, and starts healing at the earliest. After a few days you will see a scab appearing on your tattoo, make sure that you DO NOT pick on it. Remember, a scab appearing is natural and natural healing is the best way to go about it.
