How Long Does It Take A
Tattoo To Heal
So, you have
just got a new tattoo done on your body. I’m sure it looks
quite nice, but do you know, in order to keep the beauty of
this body art intact it is very important that you take care of
it properly till it heals completely.
How long does
it take a tattoo to heal? The healing process of a tattoo
starts right from the time a tattoo artist is done making the
tattoo. It takes approximately 3 weeks for a tattoo to heal
properly. The initial
few days of the healing period is considered to be the most
crucial time, as it is during this time you promote healthy
healing, to ensure that the design and the color of your tattoo
remains in perfect order for a very long period of
time.
In the following
paragraphs, I have made an attempt to give you an idea of
what you can expect during these 3 weeks when the healing
process is on.
The
1st
week:
The first week is
likely to be the most difficult stage. It is during the
first week that you will experience a little pain, a
sunburn like sensation, minor swelling and a few other
discomforts. In case the pain seems to increase, you may
consider using over-the counter pain killers to help you
deal with the discomfort
better.
The
2nd
week:
During the
second week you will feel much better than the
1st. You will see your tattoo has begun to dry
up gradually. It may also start to flake and peel. You might
also feel itchy and dry, in and around your tattooed area. In
case you find a scab appearing, do not pick on it. A scab
forming on a tattoo is very natural, but if picked it may
damage the color and design of your newly made
tattoo.
The
3rd
week:
By the time
the 3rd week starts most of the scab on your
newly made tattoo should be gone. But, yes the area of the skin
where the tattoo is made may still be sensitive and needs to be
taken care of properly in order to avoid infections. Just
because it is the third week, it doesn’t mean that the healing
process is over. It is usually not till the end of the third
week that your tattoo heals fully.
Also remember, the
healing time for different individuals is different, but
in usual cases it takes about 3 weeks for a tattoo to get
heal properly. I always recommend readers who have either
recently got a tattoo done or planning to get a tattoo,
to carry on with the after-care treatment for a month to
be on the safer side and also to ensure that the color
and the design of the tattoo remains unspoiled for a very
long period of time.
Few things to
remember:
ü
Keep your
tattoo away from water for the initial few
days.
ü
Make sure
that you clean the tattooed area with an antiseptic
soap.
ü
Apply
antiseptic ointment on your tattoo for the first few
days.
ü
Try to
avoid exposing your tattooed area to the
sun.
ü
Get your
tattoo done from a professional.
So, to conclude if
you have recently got a tattoo done, make sure that you
keep the abovementioned points in mind to help healing
your tattoo faster than
usual.
